Battery Hooper Park

Battery Hooper Park is located at 1402 Highland Pike in the beautiful City of Fort Wright, Kentucky.

The 14 acre park is home to the James A. Ramage Civil War Museum but also features two (2) shelter houses for picnics and a large play structure, teeter totter, and swing sets for all to enjoy some outside play time. Visitors can also view a variety of older trees that add so much character to the property.

Monarch Way Station Garden

The plantings in this garden were designed by the Fort Wright “Dirty Hands” Garden Club to provide rest, nectar and habitat for the monarch butterfly’s reproductive cycle. It also functions as a sensory garden, where labelled plants are at various heights to be smelled, touched and admired.

The garden also includes memorial plaques to honor deceased Garden Club members and a special sculpture in memory of Fort Wright resident, Daniel Lee, who died in the service of our country.

Benches in the Monarch Way Station Garden also provide a quiet, restful retreat for visitors with the sounds and smells of plants and falling water.

The location of the Fort Wright Monarch Way Station Garden is on the property of the Fort Wright City Building, across the driveway from the main parking lot.

Fort Wright Garden Club

The Fort Wright “Dirty Hands” Garden Club is an independent organization for people who love to garden and is open to anyone in Northern Kentucky. We like to get our hands dirty, so we designed and maintain a butterfly garden near the City Building and also maintain other landscaped beds there. Education is also important to us; it’s the key to becoming better gardeners and being able to take better care of the little piece of the Earth we inhabit.

The club meets on the second Thursday evening of the month, usually at the South Hills Civic Club on Bluegrass Avenue. Summer meetings are often held in members’ gardens. We learn from a variety of guest speakers, but also from each other. We also have educational field trips and fun picnics. We have an annual Plant Sale & Swap in May and host a holiday Tree Lighting Ceremony in December. The topic and location of our monthly meetings is always posted on our Facebook page (Ft. Wright Garden Club).

We welcome new gardeners as well as old hands. There is always someone who can answer your questions or point you to a source of information. We encourage anyone in Northern Kentucky to become a member.
